Sierra Charts Sign Up Guide + 14 Day Free Trial!
Many people think signing up for and using Sierra Charts is too difficult. The platform’s website is dated and although the charting software is worldclass is does take some time to get used to it.
So, in good old Walnut fashion. I decided to write this blog post to help those of you struggling with it to finally conquer your fears and move to a platform that will give you the insight you need.
So let’s dive in:
STEP 1: Free Trial & Retail Verification.
There are two parts to signing up to Sierra.
1a) Download Sierra & The Walnut Footprint and get your free trial.
Firstly Sign up for your free Sierra trial click here.
Once you have signed up and downloaded their software. You can begin to use my footprint chart immediately.
For Instructions on how to use the Walnut Footprint and to get the download link click here.
You must move the chartbook file into C:\SierraChart\Data. Then in the Sierra software go to File> Open Chartbook and select the file you downloaded. You can now use my chartbook for the next 14 days for free!
Carry on reading to see how you can setup your account fully:
1b) Verify you are retail.
The second part is signing up to a clearing firm, you must do this second step to verify to Sierra that you are a retail trader – by doing this you significantly reduce the data fees as otherwise their standard fees are for professionals. For your clearing account I recommend EdgeClear as the cheapest and easiest way forwards.
Here are some things to note:
· You will not be using the EdgeClear account to trade – you only need the ID they give you
· EdgeClear has no monthly fees or charges but it takes a few days for them to approve your account.
· You will need to deposit around $100 in the EdgeClear account to open activate it ($1,000 if you are non-US like me!)
· You will need to sign up to Dorman Trading as your clearing firm:
· You can sign up to Edge Clear from here: https://edgeclear.com/open-account/
STEP 2 Edge Clear Activated:
Once you have your Edge Clear Live Account Number they will link it to your Sierra Chart username from their end and you are ready to get your Sierra Package setup.
To use footprints on Sierra you must:
· Sign up for Service Package 11
· Sign & sub the Denali Data Feed Nasdaq exchange agreement
· Sign & sub the Denali Data Feed CME exchange agreement
· Go here to activate these services
STEP 3 Setup Apex Trading in Sierra:
Now the hard part is over, it is time to link your Apex account to Sierra Charts. In the charting software go to:
· Global Settings > Data/Trade Services Settings
· In the new window, select Main Settings
· Select “Rithmic Direct DTC [trading]” from the Current Selected Service List
· Select “Apex-Chicago Area Non-Aggregated” from the Server List
· Enter your username and password for Rithmic as below
· Now click on “Common Settings” at the top
· We want to ensure our data still comes from Sierra and not Rithmic so we must ensure that “Allow Support For Sierra Chart Data Feeds” has a “Yes” next to it
· Ensure the Intraday Data Storage Time Unit is set to “1 Tick”
· Click Apply All
Okay, you are ready to go!
Over the last few months that I have been posting my reviews, you would have seen the gradual way that footprint charts have begun to take more of an importance in my trading. I wrote in detail about how to use my Walnut Footprints click here.
Stop paying trashy companies like TradingView that give you a second rate service that looks nice, Sierra is the real deal. PW
Apex Prop Trading
I found my consistency using Apex Prop Trading. I wrote about it in detail here.
